Flexible Solutions for Varied Applications The Osprey AUV is built upon the proven Gavia modular design. The Osprey has a 324mm/12¾” diameter to accommodate additional energy and sensor options to meet demanding applications with a 2000m depth rating. The Osprey utilizes a fully modular design based on the Teledyne QuickLock mechanism and Teledyne Vehicle bus.

Features include an efficient rim drive thruster, removable data pod, increased capacity battery modules, enhanced obstacle avoidance capability and more capable and customizable sensors, autonomy and payloads to meet a variety of mission requirements from defense, commercial and scientific users.

In this episode of Marine Tech Talk, we are joined by Dr. John Howe a Senior Lecturer in marine geology at the Scottish Association of Marine Sciences (SAMS). His expertise is in fjord geomorphology and glaciomarine sedimentation. He is the operator of a UK Gavia AUV - Freya, and has participated in more than 30 cruises to regions including the Arctic, Svalbard, Indian Ocean, Papua New Guinea and the Chilean Patagonia. John discusses several of his recent trips with the Gavia AUV and the advantages that Autonomous Underwater Vehicles provide for researchers.

Deep Sea Survey and Mapping - The SEARAPTOR™ is a survey grade deep water autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) designed to operate at abyssal depths. A wide range of sensors allow the SeaRaptor™ to complete several types of missions including: broad area search with side-scan sonar, hydrographic survey with multibeam and sub bottom profiler, and high resolution inspection survey with camera and acoustic sonar. These surveys support a variety of applications, such as search and recovery, salvage, exploration, construction support, marine archaeology, and oceanography.

The video shows the main system components and sensors as well as the launch and recovery system. General mapping and search and recovery applications are depicted.
